Because Garmin doesn’t know your life.

Short version.
My brain won’t shut up.

Long version.

For years, my workout notes were elite-level analysis like:

“Felt good.”
“Felt bad.”
“Trainer did something weird.”

Very helpful. Future Tony was thrilled.

But somewhere along the way, I started actually writing things down.
Not just watts and heart rate. The stuff behind it.

How I slept.
What I ate.
What mood I woke up in.
What felt harder than it should have.
What surprised me.

And that’s when things got interesting.

Because the numbers tell you what happened.
The notes tell you why.

Bad sleep = trash workout
Too much caffeine = spicy heart rate
Good mindset = accidental PR

Science.

And here’s the funny part.
Garmin thinks my training is “unproductive.”

If you’re a triathlete or runner, you’ve probably seen that too.
You grind for weeks, feel better, move better… and your watch is like:

“Nah. You’re failing.”

Cool. Thanks, robot.

That’s where notes matter.
Because while Garmin is judging your life choices, you might realize:

  • You’re training during a high-stress week
  • Sleep has been trash
  • Nutrition is off
  • You’re still showing up anyway

That’s not unproductive.
That’s being human.

Most athletes are training blind.
We stare at data like it’s a crystal ball, but never ask:

  • Why did today feel easier?
  • Why was yesterday a dumpster fire?
  • Why am I suddenly unmotivated?

Garmin doesn’t answer those.
Your brain does.
If you bother to listen.

So that’s what this is.

This Substack is:

  • My training
  • My experiments
  • My struggles
  • The random thoughts that happen mid-workout
  • The stuff coaches don’t usually post

No hype.
No “10x your FTP.”
Just real training from a real human.

Some days it’ll be funny.
Some days it’ll be messy.
Some days I’ll question all my life choices at 5am on the trainer…
or worse, the dreadmill.

If you train.
If you’ve ever lost motivation.
If you’ve ever stared at your watch like it personally betrayed you…

You’ll fit in here.

And real talk.
If your training feels off and you’re not sure why…
If your watch says “unproductive” but your gut says “something’s not right”…
That’s literally what I help people figure out.

No pressure.
No hard sell.
Just structure, context, and someone in your corner.

Two-week trial is always open if you’re curious.
Message me and we can discuss what I can do.

Because none of us have this fully figured out.
We’re just trying to get a little better.

Welcome to the chaos.
